Putting on a Play

Ms Carmen's second grade class performed a play in La Makerspace early Tuesday morning.

The play retold ancient Greek myths en espanol. It began with Zeus and his brothers, Hades and Poseidon, deciding what their realms would be. Zeus claimed the sky, Poseidon claimed the sea, and Hades was left with the underworld.

After the gods have divvied up the world, the scene shifts to Heracles, son of Zeus, as he completes his Twelve Trials. One of his first trials is to help Atlas for one day. Atlas is the titan that holds the sky up, and Heracles takes his place so Atlas can have a full day to himself.

Once Heracles completes his tasks, Zeus shows us the story of Pandora's Box. Pandora was a young girl who the gods blessed with many gifts. However, one of the gifts was a small box that she was never to open. Too curious, Pandora opened the box and let out the four winds of the world, who spread out across the land.

However, Pandora's Box held something else. Hope was inside the box as well, and the play ended with Hope addressing the audience, telling them that no matter how dark the world gets, hope will always remain.

The play was written by the students, adapted from a series of books that told the Greek myths in Spanish. All costumes and props were made by the students in La Makerspace. It was a wonderful performance!
